Geelong have taken home the 2022 AFL Premiership, after comfortably defeating Sydney 113-52 in Saturdays Grand Final.
It was the Cats dominant right from the offset. As Tom Hawkins kicked the openning two goals of the game. Will Hayward got the Swans on the board, before Geelong piled on the final four goals of the openning quarter to set up a monster 41-6 quarter time lead. Both sides kicked three goals each in the second quarter, with Hawkins and Tyson Stengle on fire, Geelong took a commanding 62-26 half time lead.
Geelong used the premiership quarter to blow the Swans out of the water, kicking the only six goals to take a 101-27 three quarter time lead. The Cats cruised to the premiership in the last quarter, kicking five goals to four, as Joel Selwood got in on the act with a classy finish late.
As Geelong secured their 10th premiership with an 81-point thumping of Sydney. After they won their 16th consecutive game to bring the flag home, as Carlton did in 1995 and Brisbane in 2001. Winning their first flag since 2011 and Patrick Dangerfield earned his first premiership. Issac Smith took out the Norm Smith Medal, with 32 disposals and three goals. For the Swans, the decade long wait extends, as they lose their third Grand Final since 2012.
