AFL TIPS AND TRICKS

AFL round 9 preview and tips

May 13, 2022 Apple iSports

Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs:

Collingwood will take on the Western Bulldogs tonight at Marvel stadium. Collingwood sitting 9th and the Dogs in 10th.

Last year in round 1, the Bulldogs ended a four game loosing streak to Collingwood dating back to 2018.

This match is crucial for both teams top 8 ambitions. The Dogs its fair to say this point have under achieved their expectations, considering there were a grand finalist last year, they have only won three games to this point and could really be behind the eight ball should they fall tonight. Collingwood sit outside the 8 only on percentage, and a win tonight would temporarily put them into the 8 and depending on weekends results could still have them in by end of the round.

The players you want to look out for and get into your fantasy line ups include:

Collingwood:

Jack Ginnivan

Taylor Adams

Jack Crisp

Western Bulldogs:

Aaron Naughton

Bailey Dale

Jack Macrae

The Dogs start as slight favourites at $1.60 to Collingwood $2.28. It is the Dogs last chance to make a statement in season 2022, they need to dig deep and show the footy world they are not done yet.

Prediction: Dogs by 15-points.

Hawthorn vs Richmond:

Hawthorn will host Richmond at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Richmond returned to the 8 last week, following their impressive 27-point win over Collingwood. Hawthorn gave up the last seven goals of the game, after leading by 24-points in the third quarter, to lose to Essendon by 27-points.

Richmond have won three out of the last five games against the Hawks, but most will remember the thrilling draw in round 23 last year, with Richmond trailing by five goals in the last quarter, before kicking the last five goals, with Jack Riewolts goal with seconds left on the clock drawing Alastair Clarkson’s game in charge of the Hawks.

Hawthorn had a hot start to the season, winning their openning two games and then after two consecutive losses, they upset the Cats on Easter Monday. But they have not won a game since, currently sitting at a 3-5 record. Richmond sit 4-4 and are looking in better nick then last year when they struggled.

The players you want to look out for and get into your fantasy line ups:

Hawthorn:

Jack Gunston

Jaeger O’Meara

James Sicily

Richmond:

Dustin Martin

Tom Lynch

Trent Cotchin

Richmond start hot favourites at $1.31 to Hawthorn $3.35. Prediction: Richmond by 25-points.

North Melbourne vs Port Adelaide:

North will host Port Adelaide in Hobart on Saturday afternoon. Port sitting 11th after rebounding from their 0-5 start to win their last three games. They are starting to think that finals are not out of the aquasion just yet. North sitting 17th with a horrendous 1-7 record and struggling.

Port have won four out of the last five clashes against North Melbourne, with their only loss coming in 2019 when North won by 86-points.

The players you want to keep your eye out for and get into your fantasy line ups include:

North Melbourne:

Luke McDonald

Luke Davies-Uniacke

Lewis Young

Port Adelaide:

Travis Boak

Jeremy Finlayson

Conor Rozee

Port for obvious reasons start the clear favourites at $1.11 to North $6.25. Prediction: Port by 50-points.

St Kilda vs Geelong

The Saints will host the Cats at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon, in what could be the match up of round 8. Both teams sit 5th and 7th respectively and still wanting to make premiership contention statuses. After the Saints hot start to the season where they won five out of the first six games, they have dropped off some form, after loosing their last two games to Port Adelaide and Melbourne respectively. Geelong sitting 5th at a 5-3 record, with some suprise losses such as the Hawks and Fremantle at home.

The key players you should consider for fantasy line ups include:

St Kilda:

Max King

Jack Steele

Jack Sinclair

Geelong:

Jeremy Cameron

Tyson Stengle

Patrick Dangerfield

Geelong start slight favourites at $1.72 to St Kilda $2.10. The Saints desperatly need a win to keep their finals ambitions real, if they were to lose three straight, it could really be an uphill battle for them, but they do face a reasonable fixture before the bye with Adelaide and North to come. My prediction is that the Saints can bounce back if they are on their game. Prediction: Saints by 10-points in an upset.

Sydney Swans vs Essendon

Sydney will host Essendon at the SCG on Saturday night. The Swans sitting comfortably in 6th with a 5-3 record. With Essendon struggling with only two wins from eight games, and sitting in 16th.

These teams in their last five meetings have not been separated by more then 10-points in any game. Sydney winning three out of the last five meetings.

The players to consider getting into your fantasy line ups.

Sydney:

Lance Franklin

Jake Lloyd

Nick Blakey

Essendon:

Darcy Parish

Nick Martin

Peter Wright

Sydney start as hot favourites at $1.28 to Essendon $3.60. Prediction: Sydney by 50-points.

Adelaide Crows vs Brisbane Lions

Adelaide will host the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. The Lions comfortably sitting in 3rd at a 7-1 record, in genuine premiership contention. Adelaide sitting in 14th at a 3-5 record and struggling to make ground in season 2022.

Brisbane have won the last three clashes with the Crows, with Adelaide’s last win over the Lions coming back in 2018.

The key players you want to get into your fantasy line ups include:

Adelaide:

Taylor Walker

Rory Laird

Josh Rachele

Brisbane:

Lachie Neale

Cameron Rayner

Daniel Rich

Brisbane start hot favourites at $1.21 to Adelaide $4.30. Prediction: Brisbane by 65-points.

Gold Coast Suns vs Fremantle

Gold Coast will host the red hot Fremantle on Sunday afternoon.

Fremantle have an unexpected 7-1 record and defying premiership contention odds this year, sitting in 2nd. Gold Coast sit in 13th with a 3-5 record, but still in top 8 contention well and truely.

Fremantle have won three out of the last five clashes with the Suns, breaking the draught last year in a 27-win over the suns after loosing the previous two clashes.

The players to get into your fantasy lineups and keep your eye on include:

Gold Coast:

Brayden Fiorini

Brandon Ellis

David Swallow

Fremantle:

Will Brodie

Angus Brayshaw

James Aish

Fremantle start favourites at $1.49 to Gold Coast $2.57. Prediction: Fremantle by 30-points.

Greater Western Sydney vs Carlton

Greater Western Sydney (GWS) will host Carlton on Sunday afternoon. The Blues defying the odds with their start to the season to sit 4th place at a 6-2 record, in their first season under Michael Voss. For the Giants, they are struggling in 15th at 2-6, with Leon Cameron to coach his last game on Sunday.

GWS have won the last five clashes with the Blues, also have only lost to them once since 2014 when Carlton caused a 1-point upset in 2017.

Carlton are facing a big out with Harry McKay being sidelined for six weeks a with knee surgery required. But hopefully can still look to Charlie Curnow up forward, along with help from debutant Jesse Motlop, Zac Fisher and Corey Durdin.

The key players to look at getting into your fantasy line ups include:

GWS:

Josh Kelly

Toby Green

Issac Cumming

Carlton:

Charlie Curnow

Patrick Cripps

Sam Docherty

GWS start at $1.73 despite their position on the ladder, to Carlton $2.12. But Carlton needs to cover for the loss of McKay and have plenty of depth to do it. It’s time for Carlton to snap this GWS struggling loosing streak and spoil Leon Cameron’s farewell game.

Prediction: Carlton by 15-points.

West Coast Eagles vs Melbourne

West Coast will host Melbourne on Sunday evening. Not to mention Melbourne travel to Perth sitting top of the table, undefeated after eight games and have won their last 15 games, including last years Grand Final in Perth. On the flip side, West Coast sit dead last and have only won one game from eight, and have been hit very badly by Covid in the last couple weeks.

West Coast have won four out of the last five clashes with Melbourne, with Melbourne breaking the draught in round 21 last year in their nine-point win in Perth. But one can only predict a very ugly outcome for West Coast on this occasion.

Key players to think about getting in the fantasy line ups include:

West Coast:

Jack Redden

Shannon Hurn

Tim Kelly

Melbourne:

Max Gawn

Ed Langdon

Christian Petracca

Kysaiah Pickett

Melbourne start hot favourites as $1.02 to West Coast $17. Prediction: Melbourne by 75-points.

Remember gamble responsibly.
