WALES have qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1958, following a 1-0 playoff triumph over Ukraine.
It was a free kick from Gareth Bale in the 33rd minute that proved decisive, his free kick rebounding off the head of Andriy Yarmolenko- for the own goal, which was enough for Wales to progress to Qatar. It was a goalless second half. As Wales were good enough to hold out for a 1-0 victory that sees them end their 64-year wait to return to the major stage.
It has been a golden generation from Wales, we have seen them in the European championships over the last two tournaments, reaching the last four of the finals in France in 2016. Also, the round of 16 at Euro 2020. Now their golden generation has made it onto the world stage and will be in group B along side England, Iran and the USA.
They will be keen to prove what they can do at the World Cup, it will be a huge match up when they face England in particular. Gareth Bale will get a shot on the world stage.
