Elena Rybakina [17] beats Simona Halep [16] 6-3 6-3!
World 17, Elena Rybakina defeated Simona Halep (world number 16) in two sets, to make it through to the Wimbledon final.
In her first Semi, Rybakina really found her best level. She won the first three games of the first set, before she took out the first set 6-3. In the second set, Halop worked her way back to 4-3. Before Rybakina, the 23-year old went on two win the last two games of the set to create history by becoming the first finalist from Kazakstan.
Halep, who’d won 12 straight matches at Wimbledon over a three year period, simply couldn’t cope with the relentless aggression and power of Rybakina, who knocked out Australia’s No.1 Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarter-finals. Now the 23-year can look forward to competing for her first single’s grand slam title.
Ons Jabeur [3] beat Tatjana Maria 6-2 3-6 6-1:
World number 3, Ons Jabeur became the first African and Arab female to reach the Wimbledon final.
She started strongly, winning the first set comfortably 6-2. Maria hit back hard in the second set and took it out 6-3. Before Jabeur dominated the third set and won it 6-1 to book her place in the final. Her best form came when she was put under pressure and she responded.
She will meet Elena Rybakina in Saturday’s women’s final.
In other news. Rafael Nadal pulled out of his semi final, due to an abdominal tear. Therefore, Nick Kyrgios will face the winner of the semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie.
